The Barbro Warm Hands Project.

The Barbro Warm Hands Project

Is an invention of http://www.artprojectsforkids.org/2009/03/this-project-helps-students-identify.html

On her website you are able to download a template which can be very helpful.  What many of us did was allow the students to invent their own way of creating shape in repetition.  I wanted the children to think of inventive hand positions as well.

This project is a great one and a great contribution to Elementary Art Education!!!  Thank you, Kathy Barbro!!!

Quill/Collage

Quill/Collage

There are so many different variations of collage and this one is a combination of much of what we have done before.  This one the children love since you pretty much allow them to do whatever they want and interrupt them briefly to show them the quilling technique.  I have done quilling with my September K's to my May 5th's and the k's will learn and the 5th's do much invention.

Posted this one because its just a great idea to have paper cut in advance of all sizes, colors, textures even, for this intermediate project, say one class finishes a project faster than another class of the same grade, this is a good one day-er.  Or just have this lesson ready for after you do that stressful lesson, you know which one...

Gee's Bend/Zamorano Quilt

I found this Gee's Bend Quilt lesson on Shine Brite Zamorano, one of my favorite art lesson blogs and the blog that inspired me to do this one (a blog of my own)..  I have done my version of this quilt lesson before but Zamorano arts ingenuity is creating gorgeous individual works and a unified collaborative whole is what had me screaming!  Much respect.  Much love!!  Just GO TO HIS PAGE!!!!!

Variations of Keith Haring

The Art of Keith Haring

  • Students explored gesture drawing, we did freeze dance, talked about creating movement in figure drawing, worked with charcoal, tempera, butcher paper, oil pastels for the small versions we did in k and 1...
  • Created gesture drawings with charcoal on a small and large scale.
  • Learned and practiced figure drawing proportions.
  • Large life size done by 3rd - 5th.
  • As shown in photos, some traces and some drew freehand.
  • Great exercise in collaboration.
