Take Part Art Festival Logo Contest Award Winner!
It was an outstanding honor when one of my students beat out students from other elementary schools, middle schools and high schools! Deanna is only in the 5th grade!!
Illuminations Project
The initial inspiration for this project was the work of Ahmed Mater I was first introduced to at LACMA last year at their phenomenal "Gifts of the Sultan" exhibition. Ahmed Mater is an artist AND a doctor! The symbolism he achieves in these X-rays he uses are interesting conceptually and visually. I immediately thought of Sun Print paper for the students to get a similar effect. The students were to choose objects that were special, even sacred to them to print.
He colored his paper with tea as Shahzia does, Shahzia Sikanders work is so interesting and in the Art 21 Video she actually demonstrates this technique so we did our version of this kind of painting but with liquid watercolor in a variety of colors.
How often are we able to deflate stereotypes through simple exposure? The Art 21 videos are fantastic for this.
